Dr. Luigi Pacifico
Dr. Luigi Pacifico first became interested in medicine when he was in high school studying the scientist Leonardo DaVinci. "I actually took a whole semester in Renaissance studies and learned quite a bit about him. He was very interested in how the human body worked and was quite ahead of his time. Then later I worked at the Dana Farber Institute and after that I knew I wanted to be a doctor when I grew up. I really learned what a physician does working there." Read more
Dr. Brian Downey
For Dr. Brian Downey, being a physician is all about patient care. "I truly love taking care of patients," he explains. "The reason I decided to go into medicine versus another career was that I really enjoyed the interactions with people. Whether working with my patients or other healthcare professionals, I value the interactions I have. I also enjoy being a cardiologist because it allows me to see patients over an extended period of time and offer great continuity of care." Read more
Dr. Michael Goodfriend
As a cardiologist at Fallon Clinic, Dr. Michael Goodfriend believes that educating patients is one of the keys to good care. "I think education is really important. It allows patients to have a better understanding of their problem and how to deal with it. Cardiology issues frequently can be complex. Dr. Robert Harizi
During his time as a cardiologist, Dr. Robert Harizi has learned that each patient is truly unique and often needs individualized therapy. "After making a diagnosis, I try to tailor the treatment which has the highest likelihood of success to that person. Before you begin any treatment plan, you have to take into consideration a patient's lifestyle, what their job is, what their attitudes are - the whole ball of wax. Dr. Joseph Kirkpatrick
Dr. Joseph Kirkpatrick has been a practicing cardiologist for more than two decades. "I finished my fellowship in cardiology at Rhode Island Hospital in 1980," he recalls. "Of course, when you study medicine, learning is a never-ending process. It's been interesting to see the changes in cardiology over the years. There's truly a world of difference in how we treat patients now compared to when I first started practicing. Everything from the technologies used for diagnosis to the medicines we prescribe is very different." Read more
Dr. Dennis Maki
As a cardiologist at Fallon Clinic, Dr. Dennis Maki believes that it's important to treat cardiology patients according to established guidelines but also apply that care on an individual basis. "We always strive to individualize and bring evidence-based medicine to that particular patient. You have to consider what the evidence is and then apply it to your patient. Dr. Stephen Pezzella
After graduating from St. Louis University Medical School, Dr. Stephen Pezzella became the very first cardiology fellow at the University of Massachusetts and joined Fallon Clinic after his fellowship in 1978 . Dr. Neeta Shah
Dr. Neeta Shah was born in India but has spent the last 18 years studying and practicing medicine in the United States. Asked why she decided to become a doctor she responds, "I grew up in India, where everyone puts a great emphasis on education, especially in professions such as teachers, engineers, or doctors. In my own family I had a great choice of role models - my grandfather was a teacher, my father an engineer, and my mother a physician! I believe I have combined the best of these worlds, by choosing a career that would allow me to make a positive influence in people's lives." Read more
