Arterial Surgery
Surgeons at the Vascular Center perform standard open surgical management of vascular diseases including: cerebrovascular occlusive disease; upper extremity occlusive disease; aortic and infrainguinal occlusive disease; renal and mesenteric artery occlusive disease; portal hypertension, aneurismal disease; venous incompetence and thrombotic disease, central vein catheter insertion, sympathectomy, and peritoneal and hemodialysis access surgery.
Percutaneous Diagnostic Testing and Percutaneous Minimally Invasive Treatment
This is performed both within the Division of Vascular Surgery and the Division of Cardiology and includes: aortic disease; carotid artery disease, renal disease, mesenteric disease, lower and upper extremity arterial disease and dialysis access surgery.
Endovascular Surgery
Fallon Clinic’s Dr. John Najjar, Dr. Leon Josephs and Dr. Elizabeth Mahanor perform a variety of endovascular surgical operations and are currently the only surgeons performing these procedures for patients at St. Vincent Hospital.
Minimally Invasive Vascular Surgery & Angioscopy
Fallon Clinic has established a leadership role in minimally invasive surgery and angioscopy. Under the leadership of Dr. Leon Josephs, minimally invasive surgical techniques have been developed, including the use of angioscopy for lower extremity bypass operations. These techniques have been shown to improve outcomes, minimize length of stay and reduce complications.
Ateriography and Interventional Radiology
Fallon Clinic physicians provide 24/7 coverage for arteriography and interventional radiology including: diagnostic angiography; percutaneous transluminal angioplasty; intravascular stents; and arterial and venous thrombolytic therapy. In selected cases, our vascular surgeons collaborate with our interventional cardiologists and interventional radiologists at St. Vincent Hospital. The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at St. Vincent Hospital gives our vascular surgeons a valuable resource in performing procedures and enhancing patient care.
Vascular Laboratory
The Vascular Laboratory at St. Vincent Hospital is an ICAVL-certified laboratory committed to the highest quality noninvasive diagnosis of vascular disease. This includes arterial pressure and volume testing, duplex ultrasound-based diagnosis of arterial diseases of the carotid, mesenteric and visceral vessels, aorta as well as the arterial and venous systems of the extremities. The Laboratory is staffed by Fallon Clinic physicians from Vascular Surgery and Neurology as well as registered vascular technicians.
Cosmetic and Therapeutic Vein Treatments
Working in collaboration with New England Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics, we provide a number of treatments for spider veins and varicose veins. Two minimally invasive treatments, sclerotherapy and laser light therapy, can be performed on an outpatient basis and offer excellent results.
Patient Education
The patient education program at Fallon Clinic is a pioneering activity, which ensures that all patients undergoing elective vascular surgical procedures meet with our patient educator, a Registered Nurse. This patient education helps promote an accelerated recovery and shorter lengths of stay after vascular surgical procedures.
